CHAMPVA doesn't require providers to enroll the way TRICARE or Medicare does โ any willing provider can bill it. That's good news in theory, but in practice it means there's no official directory of who actually accepts CHAMPVA patients. Veteran families are left cold-calling offices one by one, often getting turned away by front-desk staff who've never heard of the program.
CHAMPVA Finder exists to fix that โ a free, public directory built from federal provider data and, more importantly, from the real experience of families who've already found providers that work with CHAMPVA smoothly.
Most listings on this site started as records pulled from the federal NPI Registry (the same public database that identifies licensed healthcare providers nationwide). That gives good coverage, but it doesn't tell you whether a provider is actually easy to work with for CHAMPVA billing โ only that they exist.
That's where the community comes in. Any visitor can add a provider they've personally used, and anyone can confirm or report a listing based on their own experience. Enough confirmations from real families upgrade a listing's badge from "unverified" to community-confirmed. It's not a perfect system, but it gets more accurate the more people use it.
CHAMPVA Finder is an independent, volunteer-run project โ not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or any government agency. It was built because a directory like this should already exist and didn't. It's free to use and always will be.
